ambulant

definition: non-stationary

Ambulant means non-stationary. The patient goes for ambulatory consultation, diagnosis and treatment to a clinical facility, the outpatient clinic. This takes one or more hours, but not several days. The patient does not have to be admitted to a ward; he or she does not spend the night in hospital.

Ambulance

definition: Clinical device for non-stationary treatment

An ambulance is a clinical facility in which patients with a referral can make appointments for consultation, diagnosis and treatment with a specialist doctor at the clinic without being admitted as in-patients.

Anti-infectives

Anti-infectives are drugs that are used to treat infectious diseases by killing the pathogens that cause them.

These include e.g:

  • Antibiotics against bacteria
  • Tuberculostatics against tuberculosis bacteria
  • Antivirals against viruses.

ARDS

ARDS is an abbreviation for the English technical term "Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome". This very strong reaction of the lungs to harmful influences is called "acute respiratory distress syndrome" or "acute lung failure" in German-speaking countries.

CABS is the abbreviation for the Charité Centre for Outpatient Ventilation and Oxygen Therapy of the Clinic - an outpatient facility for the care of patients with lung, musculoskeletal or nervous system disorders who are temporarily or permanently dependent on ventilators to support their respiratory functions.

With the over-arching goal of improving biomedical translation into applicable therapies for the human patient in mind, Charité 3R is an interdisciplinary effort to improve both medicine and animal welfare.
